You shouldn’t skip breakfast, some nutritionists say, noting that the first meal should be filling so that you don’t want to eat until lunch. Other nutrition experts believe that the benefits of breakfast are overstated.
For example, doctor Svetlana Solomeina does not agree that a hearty breakfast will provide a large amount of energy without the risk of excess weight – supposedly due to increased sensitivity to insulin. According to the doctor, insulin sensitivity does not work by the clock – it increases after at least eight hours of fasting, and it just so happens that this time falls on breakfast. If the fasting period is extended over a longer period, insulin sensitivity will be even higher. However, there is no scientific evidence that the first meal closer to lunch is worse than breakfast, the doctor emphasized, writes the portal 74.ru.
However, her colleague, nutritionist Regina Akhunyanova, draws attention to the consequences of skipping breakfast, which can be more dangerous than a couple of extra pounds, the expert is quoted by Doctor Peter.
According to the specialist, morning fasting contributes to the stagnation of bile and the formation of stones in the gall bladder and bile ducts of the liver. The doctor added that the body produces about one liter of bile per day, and bile is excreted during breakfast – approximately 5-12 minutes after eating food.
Breakfast, according to Akhunyanova, should contain protein, which contains eggs, fatty fish, seafood and spinach. A piece of stewed or lightly salted mackerel is quite enough. “It is also necessary to add fiber and reduce the amount of simple carbohydrates,” the expert advised, explaining that fiber in the form of vegetables and herbs creates a food bolus, with the help of which the gallbladder contracts and releases bile.
Scientists from the USA also talk about the benefits of breakfast. According to doctors from the American College of Cardiology, people who don’t eat breakfast are 87% more likely to die from heart disease or stroke than those who eat their meals in the morning.
At the same time, scientists from Harvard University note that many people mistakenly believe that skipping breakfast helps you lose weight. A study by specialists showed that there is no connection here.
At the same time, most nutrition experts are sure that you shouldn’t force yourself. If a person is not used to eating in the morning, he does not need to force himself. And for those who cannot live without breakfast, it is better to include more protein in the first meal.
