The epidemiological situation regarding measles in Russia is controlled; Thanks to the measures taken, over the past four months there has been a steady downward trend in the incidence rate, Rospotrebnadzor said.
“Today, the epidemiological situation regarding measles is controlled. In 2023, another cyclical rise traditional for measles is observed. In some regions of the Russian Federation, the increase in morbidity is observed mainly due to unvaccinated citizens, including those arriving from neighboring countries,” the department’s press service reported.
Rospotrebnadzor noted that group outbreaks of the disease were observed throughout the year among the “gypsy population and religious communities that refuse vaccinations,” Interfax reports.
The department also reported that Rospotrebnadzor is working to prevent measles. According to the department, in all regions, since April 2023, cleanup immunization has been carried out – vaccination of children and adults who have not been vaccinated and have not had measles, as well as children and adults who have been vaccinated once. To date, 77.5% of those subject to immunization have been vaccinated during the current campaign, the department specified.
“Thus, over the past 4 months there has been a steady downward trend in the incidence of measles,” the department reported.
