The first publicly named defendant in the case of blowing up three lines of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in September 2022 has emerged. According to The Washington Post, the bombing operation was coordinated by the former commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel Roman Chervinsky.
The publication, citing Ukrainian and European officials, writes that 48-year-old Chervinsky led a team of six people – they rented the Andromeda yacht using forged documents and, using deep-sea equipment, installed explosive devices on gas pipelines. It is clarified that Chervinsky carried out orders from high-ranking officials of Ukraine, who were subordinate to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.
Chervinsky himself denies involvement in pipeline explosions.
Chervinsky has been under arrest by decision of a Ukrainian court since April 2023. The SBU accuses him of trying, together with a group of Ukrainian military personnel, to hijack a Russian Aerospace Forces plane by recruiting a Russian pilot.
Let us remind you that the official investigation into the pipeline explosion incident is being conducted by Germany, Denmark and Sweden. Russia considers the bombing an “act of international terrorism” in which the United States is involved.
