Usman Nurmagomedov said that doping entered his body through medications
Russian Bellator fighter Usman Nurmagomedov commented on the information about a positive doping test. The athlete spoke out on Instagram (the social network is banned in Russia; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned).
Nurmagomedov explained that the prohibited substance entered his body through medications prescribed by a doctor. A few months before the title fight with American Brent Primus, the Russian underwent a course of treatment, but did not notify the athletic commission about this in advance. “I would like to note that the state commission conducted its own full investigation, where I provided all the necessary documents, extracts and medical certificates, due to which the period of my disqualification was reduced to six months,” he added.
On November 11, it became known that the California State Athletic Commission had disqualified Usman Nurmagomedov for violating anti-doping rules. The executive director of the American promotion Bellator, Mike Kogan, said that the Russian, who is the cousin of former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, will not be stripped of the championship title. The fight with Primus was declared invalid.
In total, 25-year-old Nurmagomedov won 17 victories in his professional career without suffering a single defeat. He currently holds the Bellator lightweight championship.
