The European Parliament called for a review of the ban on Russian cars

The ban on Russian cars in Europe may be revised. European deputies are calling for the cancellation of this decision, according to the resolution of the European Parliament, excerpts from the document are provided by RBC.

And although the resolution calls for the deputies to tighten sanctions against Russia, they also highlighted flaws in the existing sanctions regime. Including the measures taken against Russians, which relate to the confiscation of personal items from those entering the EU, were called “discreditable”.

“The European Parliament calls on the European Commission to reconsider its interpretation of sanctions leading to the seizure and confiscation of items and vehicles for personal use only,” the document says. It also emphasizes that such excessive compliance discredits the purpose and instrument of sanctions.

Let us recall that on September 8, the EC issued clarifications according to which Russian citizens were prohibited from entering the European Union with personal smartphones, cars, jewelry and laptops. It was noted that Russians crossing the EU border cannot bring with them mobile phones, laptops, suitcases, cosmetics, leather and fur products, semi-precious stones, toilet paper, shampoos, toothpastes, cameras. EU customs authorities may not allow them through. It is also prohibited to enter the EU countries with cars registered in Russia – this will be regarded as prohibited import. Later, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as Finland, refused to allow cars with Russian license plates into their territories. On October 3, Norway also introduced an entry ban for passenger cars with Russian registration.
