Who else remembers the character of Miś Uszatek? The title character of the series for the youngest has provided joy and bookish knowledge to viewers for years and has grown up with them. Master Bronisław Pawlik was inextricably linked with the character. But was it right to be the “kiss of death” for him?

However, before the explosion of popularity of the furry Little Ear Teddy, he was known only as “The Bear from the Window”. Together with his friend Bronek (Bronisław Pawlik), he made his screen debut on June 23, 1957, and for the next 16 years he added color to the gray and gray reality in the People’s Republic of Poland. Even though the character was based on the English original, we, Poles, agree. He is completely our common national good. However, the idyll did not last long.

Time to say goodbye? Only with a bang

Pawlik said goodbye to Teddy Bear with a bang. As the story goes, when he decided that the camera was already turned off, he threw a few crude words at the viewers. And they are as follows:

And now, dear children, kiss the teddy bear, I’m going for vodka

Many generations have grown up with this anecdote and it has become a veritable folklore of Polish show business. Over time, not only Pawlik was accused of uttering these very unrefined words, but also the other narrators of Miś: Mieczysław Czechowicz (narrator of “Miś Uszatek”, screened since 1975) and Stanisław Wyszyński. But it was the first character who flew out of Public Television with a bang for many years. Could these words really have been said?

A hoax or maybe the truth? A number of doubts

Exactly. The problem is… no one heard them either live or in subsequent replays. But why are they still an axis of dispute for subsequent generations? There are several reasons. Who doesn’t like gossip? Wyszyński himself revealed the veil of secrecy. According to him, this entire story was invented by Czesław Nowicki “Wicherek”, the then weather presenter. Known for his uninhibited attitude towards viewers, the weatherman decided to have another story to share with his audience.

“Bronek’s” habits did not help to put an end to speculation either. His passion for spirits was known in the television underworld, and he himself often fought an unequal battle with alcoholism. However, this did not prevent her from going down in the history of Polish cinematography as one of the most outstanding people. We know him for example from the role of Ignacy Rzecki in the film adaptation of “Lalka” or the manager of the Tęcza band in Stanisław Bareja’s “Teddy Bear”.

To sum up, technically speaking, such a mistake would be technically impossible, because when the camera was turned off, the video would also go silent, and Pawlik himself, tired of being “pigeonholed” with a fairy-tale teddy bear, decided to pursue an acting and theater career. He also didn’t feel like explaining the situation. However, the legend of the teddy bear will remain eternal.
