US senators proposed splitting aid to Israel and Ukraine

A group of Republican senators in the US Congress has introduced a bill that would allocate billions of dollars to help Israel, but not Ukraine, The Wall Street Journal writes.

The draft proposes to send aid to Israel totaling $14.3 billion. Of this, $10.6 billion should go to military support, including maintenance of the Iron Dome missile defense system and the development of the Iron Beam missile defense system.

President Joe Biden previously proposed allocating $14.3 billion to help Israel. However, his administration included these funds in the overall security spending bill, which includes $61.4 billion in support for Ukraine. Biden also proposed a total of $9 billion in humanitarian aid for both Israelis and Ukrainians.

“My colleagues and I firmly believe that any assistance to Israel should not be used as leverage to send tens of billions of dollars to Ukraine,” said Republican Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas.

Marshall, as well as Senators James David Vance (Ohio), Michael Lee (Utah) and Ted Gruze (Texas), believe that the separation of aid to Israel will speed up consideration of the issue of appropriation in the House of Representatives, where a growing number of Republicans oppose funding for Ukraine .
