Politico: Slovakia ends military aid to Ukraine

The Slovak authorities have suspended sending military aid to Ukraine. Negotiations are underway in the country to create a coalition between parties opposed to supporting Kyiv, Politico writes, citing government sources.

The country’s authorities have said that the outgoing bureaucratic government of Slovakia will no longer send military equipment to Ukraine. Previously, the country’s Ministry of Defense was considering the possibility of sending a new aid package, but Slovak President Zuzana Caputova called for waiting with this decision until the formation of a new government.

Let us recall that on September 30 in Slovakia, the center-left party “Direction – Social Democracy” of former Prime Minister Robert Fico won the parliamentary elections with 23.58% of the votes. He opposes the supply of military aid to Kyiv. His party also promised to block Kyiv’s potential NATO membership and oppose sanctions on Russia.

A coalition government in Slovakia must be formed by October 16.

Let us recall that in 2022, Slovakia provided Ukraine with weapons worth 168 million euros and was one of the largest suppliers of humanitarian aid to Kyiv.
