Pavel Kulizhnikov: football players won’t even go to the toilet for speed skaters’ prize money
World record holder in speed skating Pavel Kulizhnikov spoke about prize money at domestic tournaments. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The athlete said that he receives very little compared to what he could earn on the international stage. “The football players would laugh and say that they wouldn’t even go to the toilet for this money,” he described his attitude to finance with this phrase. Kulizhnikov added that money does not motivate him, as he just wants to perform.
The speed skater is a three-time world champion in sprint all-around. He also has five victories at world championships at individual distances.
On October 2, three-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina appreciated the news that Russians who will go to the 2024 Olympic Games in neutral status will not be paid prize money. Rodnina was surprised by the possible lack of prize money due to her neutral status.
