FSB: The ship of Ukraine, bound for the Kerch Strait, lay on the opposite course

The ship “Donbass” of the Ukrainian Navy, which was moving towards the Kerch Strait in the Sea of Azov, went on a return course. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the FSB DSP.

According to the department, the ship does not respond to requests.

“Information on the movement of the control ship Donbass (A-500) of the Ukrainian Navy in the Azov Sea towards the Kerch Strait. The control ship “Donbass” lay on the course opposite from the Kerch Strait, does not respond to inquiries, “the message says.

It is emphasized that the actions of the Ukrainian ship’s crew are regarded as provocative and posing a threat to the safety of navigation.

However, Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov said that the Ukrainian ship is in the Sea of Azov legally, since this is a shared water area.

“It is very strange that the Russian special services saw a threat from a search and rescue vessel – a vessel without weapons … In general, the Sea of Azov is a shared water area, we are there on legal grounds,” he told the Ukrainian edition of Lb.ua.

According to the FSB, on December 9 at 9:12 am “Donbass” withdrew from the roadstead of the port of Mariupol and moved in the direction of the Kerch Strait. The Ukrainian ship reported that they did not plan to pass through the strait.

Another incident in the Kerch Strait occurred in 2018, when Ukrainian ships were heading to Mariupol. Russian border guards believed that they had entered the country’s waters illegally, without notice. 24 Ukrainians who were on the ships were sent under arrest.
