The head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak said that US President Joe Biden, during negotiations with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, told him that the decision to join Kiev to NATO depends on the Ukrainian people.
“In recent days there have been talks about supposedly some conditions about NATO, about membership in the alliance, about Ukraine’s course towards NATO membership. President Biden said very clearly that the decision to join NATO is only the decision of the Ukrainian people. This is a sovereign independent state, “Yermak said on the air of the 1 + 1 TV channel.
The talks between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Vladimir Zelensky and Joe Biden, lasted about an hour and a half, the American leader told his Ukrainian counterpart about his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The presidents started with the most important thing, President Biden told President Zelenskiy about his summit with Russian President Putin. They also talked about other issues, ”Yermak said on TV.
According to him, Zelensky does not support the idea of freezing the conflict in Donbass. “Therefore, I believe that we must and will do everything possible and dependent on our international partners. We will do everything so that we do not have a frozen conflict or a frozen situation and we look confidently into tomorrow, ”added Andriy Yermak.
“President Zelensky once again said today (to Biden – ed.) That Ukraine is not going to attack anyone. We only want to bring peace to our land, we want to return our territories, we want to return our people, “Yermak said.
Zelensky himself, on his Twitter account, commented on the conversation as follows: “I ended an hour and a half conversation with @POTUS (US President – ed.). The US President briefed me on the content of his talks with Vladimir Putin. We also discussed possible formats for resolving the conflict in Donbass. We touched upon the course of internal reforms in Ukraine ”.
