Residents of three regions of Nagorno-Karabakh – Mardakert, Martuni and Askeran – were evacuated by Russian peacekeepers. A total of 5 thousand people were taken out, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
People were brought to the location of the peacekeepers.
According to the department, the Russian side continues “continuous interaction with Baku, Yerevan and Stepanakert, aimed at preventing bloodshed, ensuring security and observing humanitarian law in relation to civilians.”
Let us recall that on September 19, the armed forces of Azerbaijan launched an “anti-terrorist operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh. As a result, at least 200 people were killed and another 400 were injured, said Commissioner for Human Rights in Nagorno-Karabakh Gegham Stepanyan. On September 20, several Russian peacekeepers were killed – their exact number is not reported. As Kommersant notes, they were fired upon from small arms. From 13:00 on September 20, a ceasefire was established in Nagorno-Karabakh. Baku announced the completion of the “anti-terrorist operation”, and Yerevan unilaterally announced the decision to lay down arms and cease fire.
