died on May 22, 2017 in Warsaw. Just two weeks earlier, the artist underwent bypass surgery. Three days after the surgery, he suffered a stroke that resulted in a coma. During it, the artist contracted pneumonia. The artist never managed to recover.
Before his death, Zbigniew Wodecki asked Jacek Cygan for the lyrics of the song
Just before his death, Wodecki started working on his next album. He even ordered lyrics for one of the songs from the famous Polish lyricist – Jacek Cygan. “Jacuś, just don’t have too many lyrics, because I won’t learn it,” the Polish lyricist quoted the musician in an interview with weekend.gazeta.pl.
“At first I thought I would send it to him right away, but eventually I decided to read this text again in the morning. The next day I got up, turned on the computer and saw the headlines: ‘Zbigniew Wodecki had a stroke’,” Cygan recalls. Then things happened frighteningly fast. “A few days later, Zbyszek passed away. I wrote the lyrics “Seize the Day” and he died. He never knew the lyrics,” the lyricist added.
Wodecki never heard Gypsy’s lyrics to “Seize the Day”
A year after his death, the album “Good that you are”, which Wodecki worked on, was completed and released. The album featured, among others, Kuba Badach and Sławek Uniatowski. The songs also included a composition with the words of Gypsy, “Seize the Day”, sung by Kayah. The song was accompanied by a touching music video full of archival shots of Wodecki.
Jacek Cygan was very pleased with this choice. “Kayah and I have known each other for many, many years. She is a singing professor. She knows everything about it, she has come a long way – from backing vocals to a wonderful, independent career. How did she cope with Zbyszek’s voice, which she got in the demo version! It’s fine “there was an irresistible impression that they were singing together, even though Zbyszek was no longer there,” he said.
