A new scam on the Internet. Criminals send emails. They impersonate UPC

The CERT Polska team warns against a new phishing attack targeting (former) UPC Polska customers. Cybercriminals apparently hope that customers have not noticed that the brand has recently been absorbed by Play.

Every day there are new scams aimed at obtaining sensitive data or money from us. This time, the CERT Polska team detected a new phishing campaign targeting UPC Polska customers. Or rather Play, because the first of these brands no longer exists.

Have you received such an email? Do not log in to UPC Mail. It’s a scam

Like , UPC customers receive e-mails in which the sender impersonates the administration of the Poczta UPC website. Cybercriminals in their messages encourage you to “update” your account, which is supposed to increase the level of account security and ensure faster and more effective service.

Traditionally, the message is accompanied by a link that leads to a crafted scam website. The website uses the logo of UPC Polska and asks you to log in to the website. By entering your login and password in the appropriate fields, you hand them over to cybercriminals. The compromised email accounts are then used for further activities, e.g. other frauds.

This phishing campaign is not sophisticated and tries to take advantage of the user’s inattention. It is worth remembering that website administrators (e.g. e-mail) never send links to external websites. And they especially do not do it under the pretext of “increasing the level of security” or allegedly preventing account blocking (a motive often used by fraudsters).

However, this scam is interesting because it relies on the complete ignorance of potential victims. , changing into Play (both companies belonged to the same operator – P4). The current appearance of the Poczta UPC website is slightly different from the one used in the scam and there is also a clear Play banner under the UPC logo.
