“Karabas-Barabas or Baba Yaga”: Russian schoolchildren will be asked to choose a president

In Russian schools, an extracurricular lesson “Talking about important things” will be held for first and second grade students. During the lesson, children will be asked to choose the president of a fairy-tale country from candidates such as Cinderella, Baba Yaga and Winnie the Pooh, according to materials published on the course website.

Moreover, each candidate has an election program. Thus, Lisa Alice promises to build an ideal city with slot machines and fields of miracles, Karabas-Barabas promises to “organize a big stage and a good salary,” Baba Yaga promises healthy food, and also threatens to “make the devil work.” Winnie the Pooh promises that he will “get everything, come to an agreement with everyone,” and will also give “a pot of honey and a balloon to every voter,” and Cinderella is confident that people will transform life with their work, and “the family hearth should warm every family.” .

It is noted that the lesson aims to “reveal the features of the electoral system in Russia.” The lesson will be held on September 25 and will be dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Central Election Commission.

Let us remind you that “Conversations about Important Things” have been taking place in Russian schools since September 5, 2022 for students in grades 1–11. At such lessons, schoolchildren are taught about the history and culture of Russia.
