The conflict in Ukraine will last longer than initially expected. This opinion was expressed by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview for the German media group Funke.
“World conflicts often do not follow the planned path. The same situation is observed in the current situation in Ukraine,” Stoltenberg noted. “We must prepare for a protracted conflict,” the secretary general added. He also noted that NATO seeks “quick peace” in Ukraine, but not at the cost of its disappearance. “If the president (Ukraine Vladimir – ed.) Zelensky and the Ukrainians will stop fighting, their country will no longer exist…,” said the head of the alliance.
Earlier, the Financial Times reported that the West will begin intensively supplying Ukraine with ammunition by mid-2024. It was noted that Ukraine’s campaign depends on allies building up their defense industry. For now, supplies are limited, and the West is not ready to allocate more of its reserves to Kyiv. However, as production expands, supplies will also increase.
The day before, Russia sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that NATO countries are “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine and training personnel in the UK, Germany, Italy, and other countries. Thus, they are directly involved in the conflict.
