“It’s still possible without legs, but how can you do without arms?”: Kostomarov spoke about life after amputation

Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov gave an interview in which he talked about life after amputation. He admitted that it was difficult to get used to prosthetics.

“No matter what they do, no matter what prostheses they install. This will not replace my arms and legs. You can still live without legs, but how can you live without arms? The whole way of life is built on this,” Kostomarov noted on NTV.

The athlete also added that now it is very difficult for him to look at photographs and videos of his previous performances.

“I just cried and understood that there was no other way out,” the athlete admitted on the air of another show, “Secret to a Million,” recalling how he agreed to have his limbs amputated. “I was screaming in pain, as if I was being operated on alive. At first you cannot lift your head from the pillow, raise your arm, and it is also difficult to lift your severed leg. As soon as people start feeling sorry for me, I start crying,” the athlete noted.

Currently, Kostomarov continues to recover from amputation and trains. On August 22, he took to the ice for the first time in Ilya Averbukh’s show with his wife Oksana Domnina.

Let us remind you that Kostomarov was hospitalized on January 10 with pneumonia and influenza B. He was connected to a machine for oxygen saturation and mechanical ventilation for a long time, and tissue death began. As a result, doctors amputated both feet, the lower legs of both legs, the entire right hand and several fingers of the left hand.
