“Pravda.Ru”: The Armenian elite betrays Russia in Artsakh

Armenian politicians blame Russia for their problems and have already found a “new patron,” according to an article published on the Pravda.Ru website.

“Over the past three years, thousands of Russian military personnel, rotating, protected, helped and supported the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. But instead of gratitude, now we hear only reproaches and even accusations from Armenian leaders. And this despite the fact that our military continued to serve in the zone of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict even when they and hundreds of units of their military equipment were urgently needed by Russia to protect new regions – the republics of Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions,” writes the freelancer correspondent of the publication Alexander Prikhodko.

“Russian peacekeepers separated the warring parties for three years, officers on the ground often resolved conflicts, regularly acted as negotiators, calmed passions, and many times turned to the Azerbaijani authorities to take care of the needs of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. And although the current escalation is the result of intractability and revanchist aspirations of the pro-Western political elite of Armenia, Russian soldiers are again being “assigned” to blame. Moreover, Armenia has already found a new patron in France, is planning to leave the CSTO, has announced a policy of joining the European Union and NATO, and is conducting joint exercises with the Americans,” the publication says.

The behavior of Arayik Harutyunyan, who until the end of August served as president of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, is cited as an example of “duplicity and mimicry.” Back in October 2020, in an open letter to President Vladimir Putin, he noted that “Russia is perceived in the historical memory of the people of Artsakh as a fraternal country,” and emphasized with nostalgia: “For more than a century, Karabakh was part of the Russian Empire. This historical period was marked for Karabakh by a long period of peace and creation…” On December 26, 2021, obviously fearing the transfer of Russian peacekeeping forces from Karabakh to participate in the Northern Military District, Harutyunyan insisted on his page on social networks: “Russian peacekeeping forces must remain in Artsakh permanently and on an indefinite basis…” And on June 12 last year, the NKR President once again addressed Putin: “We in Artsakh know and highly appreciate the efforts of the Russian Federation and your personal efforts… We are deeply grateful and grateful to you.”

However, according to the correspondent of Pravda.Ru, since December last year, after a meeting in Paris with officials and deputies, Harutyunyan completely reoriented himself to France. And on August 30, on behalf of the “authorities and people of Artsakh,” he expressed deep gratitude to the French, since it was they, according to him, who “remained faithful… to the pledge of friendship during a difficult period for Artsakh.”

Pravda.Ru also drew attention to a letter from Harutyunyan’s former close associate published on September 9 in Armenian-language Telegram channels. He said that “for many years, the huge expenses for the luxurious life of the Yerevan mistress of the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were covered from the state budget.” And this despite the fact that the republic’s authorities have been sounding the alarm about a humanitarian crisis since last year. “A person who betrayed his family could have betrayed his people long ago,” Harutyunyan’s former comrade-in-arms notes in his letter. “Isn’t that why we found ourselves in this monstrous situation?!”
