In 2022, Starlink satellites were turned off near the coast of Crimea – American businessman Elon Musk secretly instructed to do this, CNN reports.
The publication refers to the biography of businessman “Elon Musk” by Walter Isaacson. The publication explains that Musk allegedly took such a step to disrupt the attacks of the Ukrainian military on the Russian navy. He feared that in the event of a successful attack, Russia could use nuclear weapons, according to the material, excerpts are quoted by Kommersant.
It is specified that when the Ukrainian underwater drones approached the Russian fleet, they “lost communication and washed ashore without causing any harm.” At the same time, Musk discussed the shutdown of Starlink with National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley and the Russian Ambassador to the United States, the book says.
It also noted that Starlink “was made so that people can watch Netflix, relax, connect to the Web at school and do good peaceful deeds, and not strike with drones.”
Recall that after the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, SpaceX provided Ukraine with at least 24,000 Starlink stations.
