For the first time, sanctions against a Russian businessman will be lifted by decision of the EU court. RBC writes about this with reference to the text of the court decision.
According to media reports, the European Court of General Jurisdiction, based in Luxembourg, decided to lift sanctions against the former head of Ozon, Alexander Shulgin, introduced in April 2022. The decision will enter into force after the expiration of the period for appeal by the EU Council.
The main issue for the court was precisely Shulgin’s managerial role as CEO of Ozon, and the fact that he left it, obviously, became a determining factor, emphasizes the media.
The publication notes that this is a precedent: for the first time, the court decides to lift sanctions from the “business person”. Before that, there were only court decisions to lift sanctions against relatives of sanctioned businessmen.
Recall that on April 8, 2022, the EU Council imposed personal sanctions against Shulgin, justifying them by the fact that he is a “leading businessman” and CEO of Ozon. Shulgin, among other things, participated in a meeting of entrepreneurs in the Kremlin with President Vladimir Putin on the day the special military operation in Ukraine began. On April 11, 2022, Shulgin left the post of CEO of Ozon and resigned from the board of directors in connection with the sanctions imposed against him.
