Spanish football player Hermoso filed a complaint against Rubiales with the prosecutor’s office
Spanish footballer Jennifer Hermoso has filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office against the former head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales. It is reported by Mundo Deportivo.
According to the publication, the prosecutor’s office of the National Court of Justice will soon file a lawsuit against Rubiales. For an act that violates the sexual freedom of another person without his consent, the functionary faces imprisonment for a term of one to four years in accordance with article 178 of the Spanish Penal Code.
On August 26, the disciplinary committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) suspended Rubiales for an incident at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The suspension is for 90 days. It comes into force on August 26 and will last until the start of disciplinary proceedings opened against the former head of RFEF.
At the awards ceremony, Rubiales put on Spain captain Hermoso a medal and kissed the player on the lips. This drew criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. After the scandal, Rubiales apologized and stated that he did it without malicious intent.
