UOL: Five countries are preparing to join the BRICS

Following the results of the BRICS summit in South Africa, Argentina, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates expressed their readiness to join the organization, the UOL portal reports with reference to the draft final document of the summit.

According to the publication, the countries were selected on a geographical basis. Also, an African country may enter the BRICS, but which one is not specified.

Earlier, the representative of South Africa in the BRICS, Anil Suklal, noted that 19 states want to join the group. Egypt applied to join the BRICS in June, Bolivia in July, and Venezuela in August. Argentina also showed interest.

Currently, the BRICS consists of five states: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Note that the 15th BRICS summit is being held in South Africa from 22 to 24 August. It is attended by representatives of about 40 states, including delegations from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The Russian Federation is represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at a meeting of participants via video link.
