Not used for representation. It does not serve to govern responsibly. It does not serve to manage public interests, nor to work for the benefit of the community. It does not serve dialogue or consensus building. It does not serve the common good.

“Instrumental democracy” is useless for all this. On the contrary, it is a useful system for advancing the political careers of candidates, for the coming to power of “social movements” and parties and exercising power according to their knowledge and understanding, and for taking advantage of that part they call the state, for the benefit of every leader who wants and every planned redeemer. It serves to make the lobbyist a leader, and to manipulate the mass of those who vote with the power of propaganda. It serves for arranging artificial majorities, behind-the-scenes arrangements and interest-based “evaluation” of each vote; It serves to set conditions and take advantage of the decisions of assemblies. It is the raison d’ĂȘtre of “give and take”, simulation and calculation. This is what allows the construction of the red letter of the law and what allows the most absurd nonsense to become immovable tombstones, like the Constitution of Montecristi.

“The people” is a fiction that justifies instrumental democracy. One that covers all tactics. But people, where are the people? Is it the masses grumbling on social media? Is it the one that fills the stadiums, is it the one that meekly goes to the elections? Is it the raw material of election propaganda? A face and a smile that are used as bait? Is it a false hug used to buy votes? And who interprets the will of the people? A bird of prey, that swagger who gives speeches, that man who shouts his misfortune at the traffic light? The people, always the people. But no one knows the character in whose name all the lies are told.

(…) explains the painful circumstance of a country that is eternally involved in elections and campaigns…

And the majority, most of what, of any pact, propaganda product, leftover corridor skills? Most, so many things that are done in their name. Does the sum of a few politicians who claim to be supreme have the right to decide instead of us? Does the majority have a limit; his political capacity is about reason, is he about justice and common sense?

And the responsibility of the representatives of the people or are they armored for all stupidity and mistakes?

“Instrumental democracy” – the perversion of the republican system – explains the painful circumstance of a country eternally entangled in elections and campaigns, deaf to everything but political speeches, polls and speculation. The eternal trickster who hopes that health, safety, peace and progress will arrive with the Santa we choose on that historic day; that we will achieve universal education in the next lucky draw; and that the election event, in which all the magic will be added, will be the one that marks the beginning of the future, justice and freedom.
