Prayers to pray as a family around the Advent wreath

Advent has been an inevitable time in the Christmas holidays within the Christian religion, inviting the waiting, reflection and prayer of believers.

Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year. Started the Sunday, November 28 and will end on December 24. This era is known for being the four Sundays before Christmas. And as a term it means the ‘coming’ or ‘coming’ of the Lord.

The Advent wreath is part of the pre-Christian customs of the Germans (Germany). During the cold and dark times that turned December, they collected green branches and lit fires as symbols of hope and the welcome of spring. Despite some beliefs, it does not represent a concession to paganism, but an example of the Christianization of culture.

Here are a few prayer options for this very special time in the Christian religion.

Blessing for the Advent wreath

Guide: Lord God, bless our Advent wreath with your power so that, by lighting it, it awakens in us the desire to await the coming of Christ by practicing good works, and so that when He arrives, we will be admitted to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Guide: We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Everybody: Amen.

Guide: The blessing of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, descend on this crown and on all those who with it want to prepare the coming of Jesus.

What You Should Know About Advent

When lighting the candle

Guide: The prophets kept Israel’s hope alight. We, as a symbol, light these two candles. The old trunk is sprouting again, it trembles because God has sown himself in our flesh … May each one of us, Lord, open his life to you so that you may sprout, so that you flourish, so that you may be born and keep hope burning in our hearts. .

Come soon, Lord! Come, Salvador!

Guide: United in one voice let us say: Our Father … (the Lord’s Prayer is prayed).

Guide: Come, Lord, make your face shine on us.

Everybody: And we will be saved. Amen.

What does Advent mean for the Catholic Church?

Meditation

The Virgin and Saint Joseph, with their faith, hope and charity, are victorious in the test. There is no rejection, no cold, no darkness or discomfort that can separate you from the love of Christ that is born.

They are the blessed of God who receive him. God does not find a better place than that manger, because there was the immaculate love that receives it.

We join the Virgin and Saint Joseph with a sincere desire to renounce everything that prevents Jesus from being born in our hearts.

Final prayer

Lord, pour out your grace on us, who, through the angel’s announcement, have known the incarnation of your Son, so that we may arrive through his passion and his cross to the glory of the resurrection. Through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Everybody: Amen. (I)
