Peruvian supermarkets respond to Indecopi’s request to withdraw its Bells panettone from the market

The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) through its Consumer Protection Commission No. 3 imposed a precautionary measure and ordered the cessation and commercialization of the products: Panettone with raisins and candied fruits, Bell’s brand in its presentation of 850 grams; Other marbled Bimboletes from the Bimbo brand and Cheese Tris from the Frito Lay brand, because they would contain trans fats in an amount greater than that established by current regulations, Supreme Decree 033-2016-SA.

The decision taken with a majority vote ordered the suppliers Panificadora Bimbo del Perú Sociedad Anónima, Orindale Properties Perú SAC, Supermercados Peruanos SA and Snacks América Latina SRL, to communicate the observed products to all their distributors and / or marketers, including those who make sales. on-line.

Given the measure, the chain Supermercados Peruanos SA, which sells the questioned panettone through a statement disseminated on its social networks, made a demarcation of the case, stating:

  • That they have transferred said information to the manufacturer of the product, who had told them that it complied with the standard, and
  • That the product will be subjected to a new analysis verification in an external laboratory.

In addition, they have proceeded to cease the marketing of said product in all their stores nationwide.
