This Friday, the president of the Barcelona, Joan Laporta, remained optimistic about Ousmane Dembélé’s contract renewal. The president also praised the striker, who is “better than Mbappé”, according to him.
“We have a very good relationship with Dembélé and he wants to stay. We want it too, because he’s a great player. These are situations that require negotiation with representatives who want the best for the athlete. Dembélé excites me, it’s better than Mbappé,” Laporta told Tv3.
In addition to Dembélé’s renewal, the president of Barça spoke about possible signings for the team coached by Xavi Hernández. However, he also explained that the club faces a delicate financial situation.
“Xavi asked us to reinforce the cast and we will try to do that. But, at the moment, we don’t have the salary margin to do it. Therefore, at this moment it is not possible, but we have to let sports management work”, he pointed out.
Dembélé was bought by the Catalan team in 2017, when he left the Borussia Dortmund for 135 million euros (R$862.2 million currently). It is the most expensive signing in the history of the Spanish club, alongside Philippe Coutinho.
Despite the high amount invested, the French striker has not become a key player for Barcelona and has been suffering from injuries – this season, he played only three games. Linked to Barça until June 2022, he will be able to sign a pre-contract with any other team in January.
Kylian Mbappé, in turn, is one of the stars of Paris Saint Germain and also has a contract with the French team only until the end of this season. In the last transfer window, he almost got the Real Madrid.
