Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. According to the Kremlin press service, the parties agreed to hold a bilateral meeting at the Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg, and also discussed a grain deal.
In addition, the President of South Africa informed his Russian counterpart about the preparations for the BRICS summit scheduled for August 22-24 in Johannesburg. It is known that the event will be held in a face-to-face format, and the President of the Russian Federation was invited to it, but it is not yet clear whether he will go to it.
When discussing the issue of the Istanbul package agreements, Vladimir Putin stressed that the obligations set out in the relevant Russia-UN memorandum to remove obstacles to the export of Russian food and fertilizers still remain unfulfilled. It is also noted that the main goal of the deal – the supply of grain to countries in need, including on the African continent – has not been implemented.
Recall that earlier the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin and the Commissioner for Children’s Rights in the Russian Federation Maria Lvova-Belova. It is also known that South Africa is subject to the jurisdiction of the ICC. The authorities of the republic said that Russia refused to send Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov instead of the president.
We also add that the Russia-Africa Economic Forum will be held in St. Petersburg on July 27-28. As part of the event, it is planned to sign documents in the field of information security and the fight against terrorism.
