Doctors recommend doing about 150-300 minutes of aerobic activity per week, regardless of age, said cardiologist Vyacheslav Koliev.
According to the portal life.ru, the doctor stressed that this time does not depend on age. People of all ages will benefit from half an hour to an hour of moderate physical activity per day.
At the same time, the doctor clarified that if we are talking about an intense load, then the duration of the exercises should be 75–100 minutes per week, or 15–30 minutes per day. The maximum allowable intensity of classes is determined by how much the heart rate rises during them. There is a special calculation formula: from 220 you need to subtract the person’s age. What happens will indicate the limiting threshold value of the heart rate. So, for a 50-year-old, this value will be 170 beats per minute.
When exercising with moderate physical activity, the pulse can reach up to 50–70% of the maximum values for a person’s age: from 90 to 125 beats per minute. When performing strength exercises, an increase of up to 70–85%, that is, 125–150 beats per minute, is acceptable, Koliev noted.
