In the Nikolaev region, as of June 18, the causative agent of cholera, vibrio cholerae, was not detected in water bodies, however, cholera-like vibrios were found, which indicates the possible presence of the pathogen, reports the regional center for disease control and prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The report presents the results of water surveys in the regions flooded after the collapse of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

In particular, cholera-like vibrios were found in the Ingulets River in the city of Snigirevka and on one of the beaches in the city of Nikolaev. The level of lactose-positive Escherichia coli in the Ingulets River amounted to 240 million units, in the Dnieper-Bug Estuary (a freshwater bay in the northern part of the Black Sea) – up to 13 thousand units, with a maximum allowable level of 5 thousand units.

In the Ingulets River, the content of oxygen, chlorides and iron in the water also does not meet the standards; in the Dnieper-Bugsky estuary, the maximum permissible concentrations of ammonia are exceeded. There are no petroleum products and pesticides in the samples.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention advised local residents not to drink river water, not to swim in reservoirs, not to eat river fish, including dried, lightly salted and smoked, and in case of symptoms of an acute intestinal infection, immediately consult a doctor.

Recall that the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station collapsed on June 6. A number of cities and towns were almost completely flooded. An emergency regime has been introduced in the Kherson region.

Moscow and Kyiv accuse each other of breaking the hydroelectric dam. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a case on the terrorist act, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine – under articles on ecocide.
