The court of the Kostroma diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church proposed to ban Priest John Burdin from priestly service until he has publicly repented due to the spread of “distrust of the Church among believers.” This is stated in the release following the meeting of the diocesan court of the Kostroma diocese.

The Church Court, under the spread of distrust towards the ROC, has in mind the statements of the priest in the spirit of pacifism.

As RBC clarifies, on June 11, the Russian Orthodox Church concluded that pacifism was incompatible with the teachings of the Orthodox Church and was present in heretical doctrines in different eras. The text of the resolution stated that Burdin’s pacifism is “one-sided” and “imaginary”, in which “his anti-Russian political position is clearly visible” and radically at odds with the position of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Church Court also got acquainted with the publications in the priest’s Telegram channel and found in it “ecclesiological delusion”: denial of the holiness and saving powers of the Russian Orthodox Church, doubt about the sanctity of Dmitry Donskoy, Matrona of Moscow, and others, and activities to reject believers from the Church.

Bourdin himself stated that the church had “long been struck” by “cunning and hypocrisy”.

In 2022, the priest was fined under an article about discrediting the army.
