Andrey Melnichenko, a Russian billionaire and founder of the international fertilizer producer Evrokhim and the coal-energy company SUEK, is at risk of losing his residence permit in Switzerland. As the SonntagsBlick portal clarifies, a residence permit may be revoked from a businessman due to a long absence from the country.
The publication indicates that the Melnichenko case was discussed in the government of the canton of Grisons. It is noted that the majority in the governing body of the canton approved the granting of resident status.
However, writes the portal, under the leadership of Grisons Prime Minister Peter Peyer, “the ball was quietly passed” to the responsible State Secretariat for Migration. Foreigners with residence permit category C lose their right to reside in Switzerland if they are not in the country for more than six months.
Recall that in April the businessman topped the list of the richest Russians, overtaking the largest shareholder of Norilsk Nickel, Vladimir Potanin. Melnichenko’s fortune more than doubled in a year, to $25.2 billion.
