The Commission on Foreign Affairs of the Congress (Parliament) of Peru voted to declare Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador persona non grata because of his criticism of the authorities of the South American Republic. It is reported by TASS.
“With eleven votes in favor, the International Affairs Commission approved a resolution condemning the statements of Mexican President Andrés López Obrador and declaring him persona non grata,” Parliament said in a statement.
Now the initiative should be considered by the plenary session of the Congress. In February of this year, the Parliament of Peru declared Colombian President Gustavo Petro persona non grata.
Earlier, Lopez Obrador called Peruvian President Dina Boluarte a usurper and once again stated that Mexico City would not transfer the chairmanship of the Pacific Alliance to Lima. According to the Mexican leader, Boluarte came to power illegally, as the ex-head of state Pedro Castillo was removed unfairly.
On December 7 last year, Castillo announced the dissolution of Congress and the imposition of a curfew. He delivered an address ahead of a parliamentary session that was considering impeaching him over allegations of corruption. The deputies did not cancel the vote and approved the deprivation of the president of his powers, the armed forces and the police expressed their support for Congress. Castillo was detained on charges of organizing a rebellion.
