Michael J. Fox could play in the cult “Ghost”. “I’m a f*cking idiot”

Michael J. Fox at the turn of the 80s and 90s was one of the most popular people in Hollywood. And as he has just confessed in the latest interview with Whoopi Goldberg, he regrets that he did not play with her in the now cult film “Uwierz w ghost”. When he was offered the lead male role, he turned it down and now insists it was a huge mistake.

The film “Ghost” is one of the most iconic and beloved Hollywood films, which was so popular at the time of its premiere that it became the highest-grossing title of the year – with a budget of about $ 23 million, it earned over $ 505 million. In addition, he was awarded two (script and supporting role Whoopi Goldberg), and m. AZN Entertainment included it in their list of the 10 best movies about love. The scene in which they make a pot hugging each other is undoubtedly one of the most famous, most romantic and memorable sequences in the history of cinema.

Michael J. Fox turned down a role in “Ghost”. “I was an idiot”

Michael J. Fox was recently a guest on The View hosted by Whoopi Goldberg. They talked about the documentary “Still”, which tells the story of the actor’s life and his struggle with Parkinson’s disease. At some point, the conversation turned to work – Goldberg asked Fox if there were any roles he turned down that he now regrets. He answered honestly and without hesitation:

I missed a chance to work with you. They urged me on ‘Ghost’ at a very early stage. I figured it wouldn’t work. I told them Whoopi was great, but it wouldn’t work. And then the movie turned out to be a sensational and huge success, and I’m a f*cking idiot.

Goldberg, who won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her role opposite Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, did not hide her surprise. She snapped her head back in surprise, but quickly retorted, “You know what, we still have time.” We’ll find something we can shoot together! – he reports

In mid-May 2023, Michael J. Fox also talked about the cult film with “Variety” magazine. He explained that at the time, he didn’t understand how he could make a film about the ghost of a murdered man (Patrick Swayze), who at the same time tries to console his grieving beloved Molly (Demi Moore) and help her through mourning, and this is trying to solve the mystery of his murder. Recall that only medium Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) can talk to the ghost of the murdered Sam – she helps him establish various facts and protect his fiancĂ©e from the murderer’s revenge.

It wasn’t just Michael J. Fox who was offered the lead male role in Ghost and turned it down, then openly regretted it – the makers also approached Demi Moore, who was also married to Demi Moore at the time. Willis also missed the eclectic script that mixes elements of fantasy, romance, comedy, thriller and crime. He resigned, and then repeatedly emphasized in interviews that it was a stupid mistake. Interestingly, Tina Turner and Oprah Winfrey also competed for the role for which Whoopi Goldberg later won an Oscar and a Golden Globe – the actress said that the producers were initially not interested in casting her. However, her candidacy was strongly supported by Patrick Swayze, and as it soon turned out, he was right.
