The 11th package of EU sanctions against Russia will include 90 companies around the world, including eight operating in China, which, according to Brussels, violate restrictive measures and supply Moscow with sanctioned goods. According to RBC with reference to the ZDF TV channel, this was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“We are serious about stopping sanctions circumvention. And that is why in the 11th package we have more than 90 companies around the world, about which there is clear evidence that they violate sanctions, that is, they supply sanctioned goods directly to Russia from the European Union, bypassing through third countries,” she said. .
Eight of those companies, according to von der Leyen, are located in China, but are not necessarily directly related to it. “These are companies that partly exist on paper and have owners of different nationalities,” she explained.
According to the head of the European Commission, attempts to circumvent sanctions are not necessarily undertaken by third states, often this is done by companies operating in them. Therefore, in the new package of sanctions there is a solution so that Brussels can impose restrictive measures against such firms, regardless of where they are located.
After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the EU introduced ten packages of sanctions against Russia, the last one was approved at the end of February. Since the beginning of March, Brussels has been developing the 11th. It will focus on preventing sanctions circumvention, von der Leyen said. The Russian Foreign Ministry called Western sanctions illegitimate, and the Finance Ministry expressed the opinion that Brussels had exhausted the possibilities for painful restrictions against Moscow.
