The Ukrainian army will receive American F-16 fighter jets and additional long-range weapons from Western states, the process is hindered only by the slowness inherent in NATO, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, said on television.
According to him, “these are already practically taken decisions.” Western countries “already realize that they will transfer all these weapons, including the F-16,” Podolyak emphasized, adding that “the questions are now being resolved how to launch it logistically,” RBC reports.
In his opinion, Russia’s advantage in the air can partly be countered by powerful air defense systems, but F-16 fighters are needed to “completely close the sky”. In addition, he continued, “with such a volume of intensity of the counteroffensive that is planned, of course, it is necessary to protect the troops with an air component.”
We will remind, earlier the Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan said that Ukraine may need F-16 fighter jets in the future, but at present they are not included in the list of weapons most needed by Kyiv.
