In several districts of Moscow, as well as in a number of regions of Russia, a highly pathogenic strain of bird flu was found. In the capital, the outbreak was recorded near the Borisovsky pond and in Brateevo – in the area of Besedinskoye highway.

According to Doctor of Biological Sciences Nikolai Vlasov, “avian influenza, which is now circulating in the country, is not transmitted to humans. But that doesn’t mean it can’t mutate in the future.”

In order to minimize the possibility of transmission of bird disease to the human population, “and quarantine is declared: a ban on the movement of poultry is introduced and special attention is paid to cleaning up the corpses of diseased wild birds.” All this reduces the release of the virus into the environment and thus reduces the likelihood of creating a strain that will be dangerous to humans.

As the specialist explained, the strain of bird flu, which was previously detected in Russia in several patients, is not transmitted from person to person. People can become infected only if they are exposed to a very high dose of the pathogen. For example, when working in a poultry farm. Or if these are patients with seriously weakened immunity – with HIV infection, oncological diseases.

At the same time, basic precautions should be observed. If you see a dead bird, you should never touch it or allow your pets to approach it. With live birds – ducks, gulls, pigeons, you should also not contact, including feeding them from your hands.

At the same time, there is no reason to panic today. For people, such measures – avoiding contact with birds – are rather reinsurance, notes a specialist in especially dangerous infections, an immunologist, doctor of medical sciences Vladislav Zhemchugov.

In the capital, veterinary quarantine has been declared in the districts: Brateevo, Kapotnya, Maryino, Lyublino, Pechatniki, Moskvorechye-Saburovo, Tsaritsyno, Biryulyovo East and West, Orekhovo-Borisovo North and South, Zyablikovo, Nagatinskaya Zaton, Nagatino-Sadovniki, Chertanovo North and Central. Areas adjacent to those listed will also be monitored.

As Rospotrebnadzor noted, “there are no risks to the life and health of residents of the capital” – “there are no cases of human infection with avian influenza in Moscow.”
