The Executive Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) upheld the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes, RIA Novosti reports with reference to FIG.
“After a new assessment of the situation with Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials, the FIG Executive Board considers that the measures already taken on March 1-2, 2023 and based on article 13.3 of the FIG statutes remain in full force without any further changes. The FIG will continuously monitor the overall situation and may revise these measures as circumstances develop,” the organization said in a statement.
Recall that at the end of March, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions under a neutral flag. These recommendations do not apply to athletes participating in team sports, as well as those athletes who actively support the Russian military operation in Ukraine and are related to the armies of the two countries and other law enforcement agencies. The final decision on the admission of athletes at the same time was left to the international federations.
