Having picked up an adult cat from the street, the new owner inevitably wonders if she has been spayed – especially if the cat looks and behaves like a domestic cat in the past.

It is impossible to establish this by external signs, since the seam from the operation, even if there is one, is reliably hidden under the coat – and sometimes it is tightened without a trace. To deal with the issue of the cat’s reproductive system, you will need the help of specialists, writes the My Animal portal.

At the same time, ultrasound may not give accurate results: due to the small size of the cat’s organs, it will be difficult to determine whether her ovaries are in place. An x-ray will be more effective, but for this procedure, you will have to introduce a contrast to the pet, which may cause him dissatisfaction.

The most accurate method is surgery: a veterinary surgeon makes a small incision to see if there are ovaries. The operation is performed under anesthesia, the suture is very quickly tightened and will not cause any inconvenience to the animal. Moreover, if sterilization was not carried out, the doctor can do it right away so as not to give anesthesia once again. And if the cat has already been sterilized, the incision will simply be sewn up.
