Citizens of Poland were advised to abandon the Russian name of the city of Kaliningrad and start using the Polish toponym Krulewiec. This is stated in a release on the website of the government of the republic.

“Commission for the Standardization of Geographical Names Outside the Borders of the Republic of Poland <…> decided that for the city with the Russian name Kaliningrad (Kaliningrad), only the Polish name Królewiec is recommended and it is not recommended to use the name Kaliningrad in Polish, and for the administrative unit in which the city is located and which bears the Russian name Kaliningrad region (Kaliningradskaja obłast´), the Polish name obwód królewiecki is recommended and it is not recommended to use the name obwód kaliningradzki in Polish,” the report said.

The Kremlin criticized this decision, calling it a “bordering on insanity” process.

Russia qualifies such actions as unfriendly and hostile, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
