Kazakhstan will not hold a military parade on the occasion of Victory Day and Defender of the Fatherland Day (celebrated on May 7). This is reported by TASS with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic.

“Holding a military parade in Kazakhstan in 2023 is not planned due to budgetary savings, as well as due to the need to solve other problems,” the ministry said. It is noted that the priority is to maintain the required level of combat readiness and mobility of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan.

Last year, the military parade in the republic was abandoned for the same reasons. As Minister of Defense Ruslan Zhaksylykov explained, one parade costs the country more than 4 billion tenge (720 million rubles).

In 2020, the parade was postponed due to the threat of the spread of coronavirus, but that year, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, came to a military parade in Moscow, which was held on June 24 due to the pandemic. In 2021, commemorative events in Kazakhstan were also postponed due to the epidemiological situation.

The last time a military parade was held in Kazakhstan was in 2018 on Defender of the Fatherland Day, which is celebrated in the country on May 7. In 2019, the parade did not take place on this day, as it was replaced by “conducting the active phase of strategic command and staff exercises.” At the same time, the action “Immortal Regiment” took place in different cities of the country.
