The game
The match started better for Sporting, who had much more possession of the ball and created more opportunities, despite being scarce throughout the first half. Even though they weren’t superior with the ball at their feet, Vitória de Guimarães were the ones who came closest to opening the scoring in the first 45 minutes, after André Silva pushed for the goal in a Michael Johnston cross, but VAR annulled the move for offside.
Right at the beginning of the second half, to ward off the scare taken, Sporting finally opened the scoring after three minutes with Pedro Gonçalves. With the advantage on the scoreboard, the visiting team did not give the home team more chances and insisted on killing the game in the 49th minute, with Arthur Gomes. Earlier, at 42, Sebastián Coates, from Sporting, had a goal annulled by VAR.
