The desire to evacuate from Sudan to the Russian Embassy was confirmed by 140 people, the list is growing due to requests from citizens of the CIS countries and a number of other states. According to RIA Novosti, this was announced by the Russian Ambassador to Khartoum Andrey Chernovol.
“The list where we take into account Russian citizens, diplomats, and so on, is about 300 people. So far, about 140 people have expressed a desire to evacuate, ”Chernovol said.
At the same time, he said that so far the evacuation is difficult to carry out, since “any departure from the embassy is associated with crossing the line of contact, and even with guarantees from both sides, this is a very risky step.”
The armed conflict in Sudan, which affected major cities, including the capital, Khartoum, broke out on April 15 between the army and the Rapid Reaction Force (RSF). Security forces on both sides were involved in the last two coups in the country, but with the mediation of the UN, they later agreed to begin the process of transferring power to civilian authorities and holding elections. The question of the future reform of the armed forces and the integration of representatives of the RSF into them led to disagreements between the parties, among other things.
During the conflict, the parties use heavy weapons and aircraft. According to WHO, more than 400 people died, more than 3 thousand were injured.
Amid the fighting, the Sudanese army agreed to help evacuate the foreigners and the RSF to open airports so they could leave the country.
