The G7 countries called on Russia to reaffirm its commitment to the position that a nuclear war cannot be won and should not be started. According to RBC, this is stated in a joint statement by the Foreign Ministers of the countries participating in the G7.

“We recall the declaration of the heads of state and government of the Five countries [США, Россия, Китай, Великобритания, Франция] on the Prevention of Nuclear War and the Prevention of an Arms Race of January 3, 2022. We call on Russia to reaffirm its commitment to the principles enshrined in this declaration, both in words and in deeds,” the G7 foreign ministers said.

In addition, they expressed concern that Russia had declared its readiness to conduct a nuclear test, and called on Moscow to “observe its moratorium on nuclear testing.”

The G7 foreign ministers also expressed regret over Russia’s decision to suspend the treaty on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive arms (START-3) and called on Moscow to return to a dialogue with the United States aimed at reducing strategic offensive capabilities.

The G7 countries called unacceptable the possibility of Russia to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus, as well as Russia’s “irresponsible nuclear rhetoric.”

In February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was suspending its participation in START III, signed in 2010 by Moscow and Washington. This treaty limits the number of ready-to-use nuclear weapons in both countries.
