Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin condemned the ban on Ukrainians to compete with Russians

Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin accused Ukraine of violating the basic principles of sports. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“By its decree, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine violated the fundamental principles of respect for the rules, respect for the person and athletes,” he condemned the decision of the organization. Matytsin stressed that in sports everyone should play by the same rules.

On April 14, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine banned Ukrainian athletes from participating in competitions with Russians and Belarusians. According to the provisions of the order, federations that violate this rule will be deprived of their national status. In response, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said that the Ukrainian government does not have the right to decide which athletes can participate in tournaments.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in tournaments.
