US Air Force National Guard in Massachusetts Jack Teixeira, the alleged perpetrator of the Pentagon data leak, was upset because of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. It is reported by RBC with reference to The Washington Post.
The publication talked with the friends of the young man. According to one of them, he began to publish secret documents in the Discord messenger in February last year, when hostilities began. The interlocutor of the publication said that Teixeira considered them “depressing” and was convinced that Moscow and Kyiv “should have more in common than what separates them.”
The young man believed that the publication of documents was supposed to “inform people whom he considered his friends and who could be trusted.” Discord users agreed not to redistribute them outside of the server, as it could harm US interests, writes WP.
According to another acquaintance of Teixeira, he did not seek to undermine the national security of the United States, but wanted to share his views with the chat participants “in the only way available to him.”
Teixeira’s former classmates told CNN that from an early age, Teixeira was fascinated with everything “war-related” and carried “a dictionary-sized book about weapons” with him.
The suspect was arrested on the evening of April 13 in North Daytona, Massachusetts. This happened after the publication of material in The New York Times (NYT): the newspaper, in particular, called the 21-year-old Teixeira the administrator of the game chat, through which secret documents were leaked. According to CNN, he bears the rank of US Air Force 1st Class, the third in the table of ranks for this branch of the armed forces. In addition, the young man has a medal for achievements of the Air Force.
