Poland distorts the history of the Holocaust, and the program of visits to this state by Israeli students is unacceptable, said Israeli ex-premier and opposition leader Yair Lapid.
As Rzeczpospolita writes, Lapid stated that “for many years the Poles tried by all means to hide and deny the participation of many Poles in the extermination [евреев]”. According to him, Israel has a responsibility to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and combat anti-Semitism. In this regard, it is unacceptable that the officials “yielded to the demands of the Poles” and agreed to send students “to places where history is falsified and the Poles are presented as the main victims,” Lapid added. In his opinion, the current government of Israel “has abandoned its values and principles.”
Lapid’s words drew criticism from the Israeli government. Education Minister Yoav Kish accused the politician of destroying relations between Israel and Poland during the period when he was in power. Now Lapid is “trying to do what he does best – to destroy international relations,” the minister said.
