The strategy of working with the territories of the “gray belt” of St. Petersburg will be discussed on March 17 at the media center “On the Field of Mars” (Marsovo Field, 3).
On Friday at 15:00 there will be a round table “Grey Belt: What to do with the industrial heritage of St. Petersburg”. The St. Petersburg law on KRT, put on hold until 2024, primarily focused on the renovation of a typical panel building of 1957-70. Meanwhile, the ultimate goal of the long-term CRT program should be the renewal and more efficient use of the territory of the entire city. In the northern capital, this problem has long been chronic. Although, how the process of renovation of these territories, which occupy more than 6,000 hectares, will go, will depend on whether they will become the “lifeline” of the city or turn into its “strict collar”.
The discussion will be attended by:
- Mikhail Kondiain, member of the city planning council of St. Petersburg, corresponding member of the RAASN;
- Olga Krasnova, urban planner, MLA+ bureau;
- Expert at the Institute of Design and Urban Studies ITMO.
Participants will discuss strategies for working with territories; reflection in the law on the Integrated Development of Territories (KRT); the main problems of the redevelopment of the old industrial zone.
Experts will also discuss how to preserve the historical monuments of the “gray belt”, how to get the process off the ground and carry out the development of urban areas with the benefit of local residents and businesses.
