Lemon price reaches S/15 per kilogram in Lima markets

The heavy rains that affect various regions of the country put the supply of food at risk and have a direct impact on its prices. It is so that on the last day became more expensive around 80% of the food that enters the Great Wholesale Market of Lima (GMML), according to data from the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

Of the 26 monitored foods, the rise in the wholesale price of lemons in drawers leads the list. Between March 12 and 13, it rose by more than S/5 or 234% and went from S/2.34 to S/7.83 per kilogram. It is followed by the lemon on the stock market, which after rising close to S/4.40 (189%), stands at S/6.67 per kilogram.

The price of lemon it has remained fairly stable so far this year. In January, inclusive, it fell -9.4%. While in February it fell -8.6%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

During this period, the wholesale price did not exceed S/2.40 per kg on average.

However, yesterday in the supply centers retailers from metropolitan Lima it reached up to S/15 per kilogram. This is the case of Market No. 1 of Surquillo, where it reached this price, after selling at S/12 per kg the day before.

In the Mercado Ciudad y Campo del Rímac it was sold at S/10 per kg; that is, S/4 more than the day before. In the Mercado Modelo N° 4 of the Cercado de Lima it was sold at 12 per kg.

The pea also continues to rise

Among the products that went up In terms of price, there is also the American green beans that rose S/1 per kg and reached S/3.68 in the GMML. Canary green beans and garlic rose S/0.58 and S/0.53 and were sold at S/4.88 and S/2.25 per kg, respectively.

The American green pea, although it only rose S/0.13 in the last day, is another of the foods that is at a high price. Yesterday it was sold at S/9.63 per kg in the GMML. Meanwhile, in the capital’s retail markets it fluctuated between S/10 and S/14 per kg.

On the other hand, the wholesale price of chicken alive remained at S/8.52 per kilogram for the sixth consecutive day. In retail establishments, prices were between S/12 and S/13 per kg.

Supply fell 31%

Yesterday, 4,311 tons of food entered the GMML, which meant a reduction of -31.1% compared to the 6,256 tons on average for the last four Mondays. 670 tons of potatoes also entered, a figure 23.8% lower than the usual volume.

However the midagri He warned that the lower entry of products is covered by the accumulated stocks of various species that arrived over the weekend.

Fruit supply is maintained

Last Monday, 2,315 tons entered Fruit Market No. 2, an amount 1.2% higher than the average 2,287 tons that enter that day.

the price of some fruit presented various offers, such as Valencia orange from S/1.09 to S/1.08 per kilogram; banana cake from S/1.48 to S/1.46 per kilogram; Creole jungle pineapple from S/1.56 to S/1.54 per kilogram, among others.
