The process of considering the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva by the disciplinary committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (DAK RUSADA) is of concern, said Vitold Banka, President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

According to TASS, Banka called the review of Valieva’s case “unencouraging” and stressed that “an unnecessary delay in this case is a matter of concern.” WADA is confident that the decision of the Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee (DAK) of RUSADA is incorrect. “Moreover, we have seen the questions that the world is asking coaches about protecting young athletes. We believe that the decision of DAK RUSADA is incorrect, for this reason WADA challenged it in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This decision raises questions about the credibility of the national disciplinary committee and certainly does not strengthen it,” Banka said.

Recall that earlier DAK RUSADA did not find Valieva’s guilt or negligence in violating her anti-doping rules. After that, on February 21, WADA filed an appeal with CAS against the decision of the RUSADA disciplinary committee in the case of Kamila Valieva. The World Anti-Doping Agency requires the Court of Arbitration for Sport to suspend Valieva for four years and annul all results from the date of the sample on December 25, 2021.
