Guests of St. Petersburg can pay 400-500 million rubles of resort fees in 2023. Sergey Romashkin, vice president of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) for domestic tourism, presented his assessment in a commentary for TASS.

“My forecast for the amount of money raised for 2023 is 400-500 million rubles. At the same time, the budget of St. Petersburg in 2023 will exceed 1 trillion rubles for the first time. The collection will amount to 0.04-0.05% of budget revenues,” he said.

According to him, the introduction of the resort tax in St. Petersburg from August 1, 2023 is unlikely to affect the tourist flow, but “image losses” are possible. The need to pay the resort fee slows down the settlement of tourists in the hotel. In addition, the apartments will not collect the tax, as a result, the hotels will be in an unequal position with them. Raises a question and economic expediency, added Romashkin.

The resort fee is planned to be introduced in St. Petersburg from August 1, 2023. Payers will be adults living in hotels or other accommodation suitable for temporary residence – more than 24 hours. The resort fee is set at 100 rubles per night.
